Don’t let the holiday slow your business down – Get five new and creative ideas to keep getting leads, conversions and sales on your website over the Christmas period.

It’s that time of the year again. Christmas is just around the corner, which is great. Well. Not for all businesses. December can be the hardest time of the year for those companies that find it much harder to maintain business and keep generating leads. Most B2B, and even many B2C companies see a significant drop in their lead generation rate, sometimes even decreasing by 95%.

While there may seem to be little to be done about it, this is actually a great time to get creative and do things a bit differently.

Here are our five awesome suggestions and ideas to keep getting leads, conversions, and sales during the holiday:

1. Shift your digital advertising budget – Handout holiday giveaways instead

During the holidays, more advertisers compete to reach the same audience, which means advertising costs become extremely high. Many advertisers, especially from small and medium businesses, find themselves out of the game, being unable to compete with the large brands that are guzzling all available traffic with huge budgets and extremely high bids.

Shifting a portion of your digital advertising budgets towards giveaways can be a great use of your money over December. Instead of raising your bids and budgets in an attempt to win in the digital advertising game (where you’ll likely lose to bigger brands), invest in purchasing cool giveaways to lure new users, retain existing ones or perhaps get back churned users. Giveaways can be whatever your users might like, which you hand out through a competition on your website and social media channels. People love getting gifts for Christmas, even if it’s a business.

2. Get back churned users with holiday coupons

Everybody loves getting coupons, and Christmas is the best time of the year to give them! Like giveaways, coupons can be a super-effective way to spend your December budget. Handing out coupons can be great for getting back those churned users who may absolutely love the opportunity to reconnect with your product at a discounted rate. Using coupons can also be great for acquiring new users, through a special offer limited to Christmas time.

3. Create an awesome Christmas video

Many businesses create marketing videos for self-promotion and to explain what they do and offer; let’s face it, most of these videos are very similar and are in most cases very boring. Christmas time allows you to get super-creative and create a unique holiday-themed video that will combine your brand with a creative holiday design or greeting. People love to watch cool videos, and a creative video can also bring many social shares and free traffic.

4. Turn your customers into your referrals

A referral program is an excellent idea all year long, but it can be specifically effective over Christmas. The idea is to turn your own customers into gift givers – to their partners, customers, or whomever they’d choose to gift at your expense.

These can be very similar to coupons. You simply allow your customers to invite others to a unique link that offers a special holiday discount. Your own customers are happy to be able to hand out gifts (again, at your expense) and those new people who receive the invitation are happy to get a unique Christmas offer.

5. Send out creative holiday emails

There’s really no better time than Christmas to get really creative with your emails and newsletters. The holiday allows you to add holiday cheer to your plain everyday emails (which I’m sure are great, but they can be even better for Christmas).

For example, use email subjects and themes that differ from the regular branded mail distributed throughout the year. You can try the following ideas:

  • We have a holiday gift for you.
  • Get your holiday coupon now!
  • Your holiday gift is waiting inside.

I can go on and on with these examples, but you get the idea…

Of course, the subject line is just the beginning. The body of the email is where you can get really creative. Create unique holiday designs that link your brand with the holiday spirit, and perhaps combine it with some of the above ideas. For example, your holiday greeting video could be sent out to your newsletter subscribers and users. Obviously, the same goes for coupons and giveaways.
